Meeting With Religious Leaders in BC

Reports of vandalism of places of worship in Canada have risen dramatically in recent years. This is why I introduced the Protecting Places of Worship from Mischief Act, Bill C-255.

Last month, I was pleased to join my colleague, MP Tamara Jansen, to meet with numerous faith groups in BC’s lower mainland who have experienced vandalism and other forms of intimidation. They included a Jewish synagogue, a Muslim mosque, a Sikh gurdwara, a Hindu temple, and a Coptic Orthodox Church whose church was destroyed by an arsonist.

Each expressed support for my Bill. They recognize that it is an important change to the Criminal Code as it would make it both easier for police to charge someone with mischief and shift the financial burden of the crime from the victim to the perpetrator.
